Roughing It?

With all the hustle and bustle and preparation involved with back to school I, once again, have left my blog sadly neglected.  Ironically, I am finally getting a chance to update it from of all places my campsite.  Yesterday morning we decided to pack up our kids along with our next door neighbor's kid and have an overnight camping trip.

I always dread these trips.  The thought of packing up the car with tents, sleeping bags, a grill, food, utensils, and clothes for a 24 hour excursion just seems like a bit much.  However, my husband is very good about doing a fair portion of the work himself.

Nonetheless, there are other concerns with a camping trip. I always worry about how I will sleep.  Usually I am having a great time at the campsite until the time comes to go to sleep.  Then, suddenly, every rustle in the leaves is a rattlesnake and every crunching branch is a bear coming to eat us.  Of course, I am the only one who suffers from this fear of sleeping outdoors so there I am wide awake, jumping at every noise, while the rest of my crew is either peacefully sleeping or snoring loudly

I also am always worried that I will be too cold.  No matter how hot it gets during the day, I always feel cold at night.  Thankfully, this time the mummy bag was reserved for me, which made it a much better sleeping situation.

Even though this is car camping at its best with all the amenities like bathroom facilities, wireless internet, a game room, a playground, and an onsite shop for any missing necessity (albeit at highly inflated prices) we are still the ones "roughing it" when compared with our neighbors.  Most of the campers here basically haul a full sized home on the back of their pickup truck.  It is amazing to see these mobile "campers" that have everything from porches and patios to gardens and french doors.  They also rent cabins here but I figure if I am going to spend the kind of money those go for I would prefer to go somewhere a heck of a lot less buggy, like a hotel.

Still, once we are all set up it is great to just get outside and...well do nothing.  The kids do not need a television to stay entertained because they have a ball and a field to run around in.  Still, here I sit on the computer, online, while my husband is in a rowboat asking when the heck I am going to join him.  So I think I will cut the blog short today.

Happy Fall!
